The Topcon mmGPS 3D paving control system has been applied at Hong Kong Chð « - point International Airport:
Hong Kong International Airport is one of the busiest airports in the world. Over 100 airlines operate here globally. Its passenger volume ranks fifth in the world, and its cargo volume has ranked first in the world for 18 consecutive years. Due to the high frequency of use, there is a serious problem of runway aging. At the same time, as it is impossible to carry out construction without navigation and the safety approval procedures are very complicated, the time window reserved for construction every day is very short.
As a region with highly developed infrastructure, Hong Kong has strict construction standards, especially for areas like airports where flight safety requirements are extremely high, and the construction tolerance requirements are very strict. During the entire construction process, the existing track needs to be milled first to remove the worn materials on the surface layer. Then, asphalt materials should be spread to a certain thickness to improve the smoothness of the surface layer and enhance the quality of the track.
The Topcon mmGPS 3D milling control system and paving control system are adopted in this construction. First, the construction workers generate a smooth digital surface structure based on the data provided by the design party. The milling control system automatically mums out an equally smooth surface according to this design data. This process keeps the milling workload within the optimal range and avoids over-milling. Afterwards, the same design data can be used for paving operations, saving the time required for redesign. At the same time, the time for other preparatory work, such as the installation of instruments and stakes, can also be saved, significantly reducing the time for preparatory work and improving work efficiency.
After several months of intense and continuous work, the renovation project of the second phase of Hong Kong Airport was successfully completed and received unanimous praise from the project manager, construction technicians and support staff. They commented that the application of this system not only improved the construction quality and fully met the construction requirements of the airport, but also significantly enhanced production efficiency. It has reduced their work intensity.

Compared with traditional construction techniques, 3D digital construction has the following advantages:
Improve efficiency and shorten the construction period
24-hour non-stop construction, including night construction
Improve construction quality (achieving millimeter-level elevation accuracy)
Save costs and increase profits
No piling or layout is required, reducing measurement costs
Real-time display of construction reports enables on-site control of the construction effect at any time, avoiding potential rework caused by post-event control
The application of new technologies enhances the company's competitiveness and corporate image
