New excavators or those that have undergone major overhauls must go through a period of trial operation, which is usually called the running-in period. The purpose of running-in is to prevent premature wear of the excavator and extend its service life. During the running-in period of the excavator, the following regulations must be strictly followed:

Excavators subject to the running-in period should have a signboard with the words "Running-in period" hung in a prominent place to enable relevant personnel to pay attention to the usage regulations during the running-in period. The signboard should be removed after the running-in period expires.

2) During the running-in period, the engine should be decelerated by 30%, and the deceleration load should be reduced by 20% to 30%. No one is allowed to remove the lead seal of the engine's speed-limiting device. It can only be removed under the supervision of technicians after the running-in period is over.

3) When starting the engine, it is strictly forbidden to slam on the accelerator. When starting the engine at low temperatures, it should be preheated for 20 to 50 seconds and then started immediately. After starting the engine, let it idle for 3 to 5 minutes. Only when the temperature of the cooling water rises to 40 degrees can the speed and load be increased.

4) Technical preparations before engine starting, technical requirements during operation, and technical work before parking and after engine shutdown shall be carried out in accordance with the requirements of the general mechanical operating procedures or the engine user manual.

5) During the first 30 or 50 hours of the running-in period, the excavator should dig relatively loose soil, with each loading being half of the bucket capacity. In the following 70 or 50 hours, the loading volume can be gradually increased, but it must not exceed three quarters of the bucket capacity, and the operating speed should be appropriately reduced.

6) During the running-in period, it is necessary to frequently monitor the operation of each mechanism of the excavator, check the working temperature of the bearings, gears and friction pairs of each part, and observe whether there is any leakage in the hydraulic system. For any abnormal phenomenon during operation, the machine should be stopped immediately to check the cause and eliminate it.

7) After the running-in period is over, the excavator should be inspected, adjusted and lubricated according to its operation during the running-in period. At the same time, check the cleanliness of the lubricating oil in each gearbox and the hydraulic oil in the hydraulic oil tank. Replace them if necessary.

8) Technical personnel should strengthen the technical management during the running-in period of excavators. Before the running-in period of excavators, all requirements and precautions for the running-in period should be clearly explained to the operators. During the running-in period, the usage and operation of the excavator should be inspected. The usage record form for the running-in period of the excavator should be filled out in detail, carefully and truthfully. After the running-in period of the excavator expires, the technical personnel in charge should review the record form and file it into the technical file of the excavator.
