The successor of the 250-ton mining excavator - R 9300 - is now on sale with high empowerment
This summer, the latest mining excavator of Liebherr's 8th generation (G8), the updated model of the 250-ton R 9250, the R 9300, has officially hit the market and is now on sale. The second model in Liebherr's product range, the 8th generation excavator, adopts Liebherr's revolutionary new technology. The new technology provides the machine with better on-site operation performance and is more perfectly compatible with Liebherr's auxiliary systems, automation, zero-emission technologies, and digital services. In 2024, the R 9300 will enter mass production.
High-efficiency transmission system: Fuel efficiency increased by 25%
More environmentally friendly electric drive systems are also under development
Liebherr High Efficiency System (LPE) is a proprietary engine and hydraulic management system that is standard on the R 9300. The addition of LPE helps to reduce the fuel consumption of the machine while maintaining optimal productivity and performance. Compared with its predecessor, the R 9250, the R 9300 has reduced fuel consumption by 15%. The reduction in fuel consumption can also increase the fuel efficiency of the R 9300 by 25%.
Fuel consumption is reduced by up to 15%
It is worth mentioning that when Liebherr was initially developing the R 9300, it not only considered the improvement of transmission efficiency but also needed to take into account the significant reduction in carbon emissions. The engine equipped in R 9300 has strict version certifications of international high-specification FCO and US EPA Tier 4/EU Stage V (with SCR post-treatment technology) to meet the commitment to reducing emissions.
Currently, the electric drive version of the R 9300 is under development and will be launched in the near future.
Innovative design
Improve working devices, extend service life and enhance operational comfort
The bucket capacity has been increased
Compared with the previous generation R 9250, the R 9300 adopts an updated working device design, being lighter and more robust than the R 9250. The new working device is equipped with high-performance components and aluminum covers. The boom and bucket arm adopt a brand-new design. All the above upgrades are factory standard equipment. This streamlined design increases the bucket capacity of the backhoe and front shovel configurations.
The standard bucket is 16.5 cubic meters in the backhoe configuration and 16 cubic meters in the front shovel configuration (with heavy-duty wear-resistant kits, suitable for material density 1.8 tons per cubic meter), which enables the excavator to be efficiently matched with trucks with rated loads of 100 tons, 130 tons and 180 tons.
Extend the service life
The brand-new design can also simplify maintenance and extend service life. This excavator shares components with Liebherr's current excavators to help minimize maintenance costs and reduce on-site inventory. The service life of the R 9300 has increased by 33% compared to the R 9250, from 45,000 hours to 60,000 hours. Extending the service life of the R 9300 helps the machine to better align with the service life of the main components of the excavator.
Optimize operation
Further improvements can be found in the cab design of the R 9300. The new cab features enhanced cab ergonomics, a larger touchscreen, a new control panel design, and an optimized field of vision to help promote operator health while improving safety
Indonesia's "practical" experience
Verify high efficiency and high productivity
As part of the R 9300 verification phase, Liebherr collaborated deeply with the customer PT Karunia Armada Indonesia (Karunia) to test the capabilities of the excavator on site. Karunia, a mining contractor based in East Kalimantan, Indonesia, began testing an engineering prototype with the R 9300 in September 2022 to carry out excavation and loading work in the Tabang mining area, mainly matching trucks capable of loading 100 tons and 130 tons.
In March 2023, to further demonstrate the capabilities of the R 9300, the Tabang mining area conducted a production monitoring and investigation of the test prototype. During the inspection period, the R 9300 achieved an average cycle time of 26 seconds, helping the excavator reach an instantaneous productivity of 1,371 solid cubic meters (3,017 tons) per hour. This is an impressive result for a 250-ton excavator. The R 9300 also achieved a fuel efficiency of 9.22 cubic meters (BCM) per liter of fuel.
The R 9300 will enter mass production in 2024. Backhoe configuration will be available starting from the first quarter, and front shovel configuration will be available starting from the second quarter.
