Caterpillar has launched the brand-new Cat® G3500K series gas generator sets

Recently, Caterpillar has launched the Cat® G3500K series of gas generator sets to provide reliable, fast-response and efficient power solutions. This series of gas generator sets is suitable for high-demand working environments and is designed for a variety of applications, including primary and continuous power. The first product of the Cat G3500K series - the Cat® G3520K HR gas generator set - was launched in December 2024. The other four models in this series will be introduced successively this year.

The Cat G3520K HR (High response) gas generator set has a continuous power of 2.5MW and is suitable for 50 or 60Hz applications. Compared with previous models, it starts up faster, has better loading capacity and can reach 100% load capacity more quickly. The Cat G3520K HR gas generator set can be started up, synchronized to the power grid and reach full load within 4.5 minutes. Shorter response times help customers reach full-load power output more quickly, reduce the risk of unexpected shutdowns, and provide power immediately when the grid demands it.

The overall engine efficiency is as high as 89%, making it an ideal and economically efficient choice for combined heat and power (CHP) applications.

The new Cat G3500K series gas generator sets have higher reliability in a wider range of operating environments. This series of gas generator sets is designed for reliable power performance at high altitudes and higher ambient temperatures, and has been significantly improved compared with the previous generation.

The new series of gas generator sets can use natural gas and propane, and the models to be launched in the future will also be able to use biogas, coalbed methane and gas with a hydrogen blending ratio of up to 25%, further expanding the range of gas options.

Asset monitoring and more savings

This series of gas generator sets is equipped with advanced asset monitoring functions, providing real-time data through predictive analysis to help customers identify and prevent potential faults, thereby avoiding high losses caused by downtime.

Customers can also further enhance economic benefits through the Cat Active Management Platform (Cat AMP) and Caterpillar's Distributed Energy Resource Management System (DERMS). Cat AMP technology can not only manage existing and new assets, but also help customers optimize energy usage, reduce energy costs and participate in energy market plans through cooperation with the public power grid.

Flexible energy management

The new Cat G3500K series gas generator sets are equipped with enhanced control and diagnostic functions as standard. As an original equipment manufacturer, Caterpillar offers fully autonomous internal control solutions without the need for third-party integrators. All models are equipped with the Cat® Energy Control System (ECS) energy management system to meet global grid norms and regulatory requirements.

Cat® ECS is an integrated, interconnected and scalable control system that can evolve in response to changes in energy demand, ranging from the management of a single generator set to a full-site microgrid solution that links multiple assets. This system can monitor liquids, temperatures and gas pressures, provide alarms, automatic shutdowns, voltage data and fault history, thereby helping to avoid potential faults and shutdowns.
