The drying tank is an object shaped like a tank installed on the truck's gas line system. Its function is the same as that of diesel and oil filters, both serving to filter. However, the former filters diesel and oil, while the drying tank filters compressed air.

Since there is always some water vapor in the air, when the air is compressed by the air compressor, the water vapor will turn into liquid water, polluting and corroding the air storage tank and various pumps and valves. In winter, it may even cause the pumps and valves to freeze, leading to brake failure. Therefore, a drying tank needs to be installed on the pipeline between the air compressor and the air storage tank to absorb the moisture in the compressed air.

The working principle of the drying tank is relatively simple. Compressed air enters the inner cavity from the outer cavity of the drying tank, and the inner cavity is filled with molecular sieves in granular form that can adsorb moisture. After the compressed air flows through, the moisture is adsorbed by the molecular sieve, thereby achieving the effect of drying the compressed air.

However, the moisture that a drying tank can absorb at one time is limited. If no treatment is carried out, the drying tank will become saturated and lose its dehumidification function. Therefore, the drying tank must be used in conjunction with a reverse-blowing system, which uses compressed air to reverse-blow out the moisture inside the drying tank and restore its performance.

The lifespan of a drying tank is closely related to its usage environment. Generally speaking, when the farthest air storage tank from the air compressor can release water, it indicates that the drying tank is approaching failure and should be replaced immediately with a new one.

Like all other components, the drying tank also requires a suitable working environment to function properly. There are two factors that have the greatest impact on dehumidification performance. Firstly, the temperature of the compressed air entering the drying tank must not exceed 65 degrees Celsius; otherwise, it will cause a sharp decline or even failure in the dehumidification performance of the drying tank.

Secondly, the oil leakage of the air compressor should not be too much; otherwise, the molecular sieve will be contaminated by the engine oil, resulting in the loss of dehumidification performance. The method to determine whether the air compressor is leaking oil is to observe whether there is a large amount of oil stains at the exhaust port below the drying tank. If there is a lot of oil stains, it indicates that the air compressor has seriously leaked oil and needs to be replaced.
