Three tips to help you deal with the challenges of the rainy season
Road condition inspection
On rainy days, the road surface becomes slippery and water accumulation is likely to occur on the ground. This is a common problem on urban roads, and it is even more necessary to pay attention to it at the operation site of our excavators. On mines and construction sites, many operation roads are dirt roads. After heavy rain, the road surface is washed full of potholes, and there are many places where thin mud accumulates, making the road extremely slippery. Under such circumstances, the operator must carefully inspect the road conditions and must not start the operation rashly to ensure safety comes first.
Even when it is confirmed that the operation can be carried out, it is still necessary to constantly pay attention to observing the road surface and the surrounding environment. Avoid having the excavator too close to the edges of cliffs and ditches. The ground in these areas is soft and it is very easy for the excavator to fall or tip over due to its own weight and vibration. At the same time, it is necessary to prevent the machine from working in the valley to avoid the accumulation of rainwater on the mountain from flooding the machine. If working at night, the front and rear headlights, work lights, top lights, instrument lights, wipers and other equipment of the excavator need to be inspected regularly to ensure normal operation.
Cleaning after rain
After heavy rain, the excavator should be cleaned in time; otherwise, sludge will accumulate in the gaps of the excavator, causing rusting and other problems in important parts. Among them, the chassis is the part closest to the ground and is particularly severely affected by road conditions and weather, making it the most prone to rust. Therefore, when cleaning the excavator after the rain, it is essential to pay attention to the cleaning and rust prevention treatment of all parts.
Cleaning after rain not only reduces the possibility of rust on excavators but also prevents the acidic components in rainwater from corroding the paint surface of excavators. Therefore, during the rainy season, it is best to carry out a paint surface repair for the excavator in advance. In addition, after the excavator works in rainy weather, it is necessary to reapply grease to the parts that need lubrication as much as possible to prevent rust and subsequent wear in these areas. If there is sand or water entering the interior of the excavator's rotating gear ring, further cleaning is required to prevent damage to the entire rotating system.
Park safely
The parking of excavators during the rainy season is also particularly important. If conditions permit, it is best to park the excavator in a garage and avoid overly damp environments. If the machine needs to be parked for a long time, it should be started regularly to let it run and charge the battery. After the machine has been stored for a long time, the grease on the piston rod should be wiped clean and grease should be added to all components. During the period when the machine is parked, it is even more important to keep the working device dry and clean to prevent rust from making the operation of the machine inconvenient.
When parked outdoors, try not to park in low-lying areas to prevent the excavator from being submerged by rainwater. At the same time, pay attention to checking whether the fuel tank and hydraulic oil tank covers are tightly closed and whether the breather is working properly to avoid rainwater seeping into the oil tank and causing unnecessary trouble.
