Since Yuchai launched its range extender products in 2017, small-power range extenders have been widely recognized in fields such as mine trucks, buses, and stackers. To meet the greater market demand, Yuchai has embarked on the research and development of high-power products. Just recently, Yuchai successfully trial-produced its first 300kW range extender, which demonstrated excellent economic performance. The launch of this product also fills the gap of high-integration and high-power range extenders in the domestic market.

At present, there is an urgent demand for high-power new energy power in the market for special vehicles and high-power power generation equipment. However, due to the extremely high requirements for the size and weight of the power system in the terminal products of this field, the existing "independent motor + range extender" solution in the industry often fails to meet the adaptation requirements due to excessive volume and weight.

Structure of Yuchai range extender

As the most mature manufacturer in China in terms of internal combustion engine technology, Yuchai possesses complete design and verification capabilities. It has more experience and advantages in the integrated development of engines and flywheels as well as motor coupling. The Yuchai 300kW range extender developed this time adopts the solution of YC6MK+300kW permanent magnet synchronous motor to achieve hybrid control of mechanical and electrical coupling. Among them, the 300kW permanent magnet synchronous motor is a flywheel integrated permanent magnet motor independently created by Yuchai. Compared with the independent motor solution, Yuchai's flywheel integrated permanent magnet motor significantly reduces the product weight and size, resulting in a higher degree of integration.

After overall machine testing, the motor efficiency of Yuchai YC6MK+300kW range extender solution is as high as 96%, and the maximum power generation per liter of diesel is 4.308kWh /L, which is more than 23% higher than the industry average. This effectively solves the shortcomings of the independent motor + range extender solution.
