On May 29th, two 9-meter-class earth pressure balance shield machines were successfully accepted by the customer and rolled off the production line at the Changsha Second Industrial Park of CRRC Heavy Industry. These are the 9th and 10th shield machines of the series exported by CRRC Heavy Industry to Italy, and they will be applied to the tunnel construction of the Hirpinia-Orsara section of the Neapolita-Bari Railway tunnel project in Italy. It is understood that the equipment will pass through challenging strata such as clay, silty clay and marl, and efficiently complete the tunneling of the section. In response to the complex geological and hydrological conditions, the technical team of CRRC Heavy Industry has applied the internationally leading green tunnel boring machine design concept, successfully developed and applied a number of core technologies including permanent magnet drive, push and assembly synchronization, ultra-high pressure rescue and automatic steering of the trolley, achieving a high degree of automation and energy conservation and environmental protection of the equipment, significantly improving construction efficiency and optimizing the working environment. To meet the EU access standards and the local requirements for the prevention of harmful gases in Italy, the equipment integrates a gas detection system, ventilation system, emergency lighting, communication, power supply, etc. that comply with the European Explosion-proof Directive (ATEX), effectively ensuring that the entire machine passes the strict EU CE safety certification.
