In recent years, more and more pure electric mining trucks have been used in mining areas. Take our fleet for example. Pure electric models are now the absolute main force. The remaining oil vehicles are getting fewer and fewer, and they will also be gradually replaced within the next few years. Xing Yafeng, the fleet operation manager of a metal mine in Central China, said that under the influence of multiple factors such as national policies and market competition, building green mines has become an inevitable trend for the entire industry. The use of electric mining trucks can not only significantly reduce carbon emissions but also provide better and more long-term economic benefits.

In fact, Xing Yafeng's team began exploring the application of pure electric mining trucks as early as 2016. "At first, we only bought a few vehicles for trial use. After all, the roads in the mining area were full of potholes, and it was hard to say whether the motors could withstand heavy loads. Moreover, new energy mining trucks were just getting started at that time, and the maturity of the technology also needed to be tested." However, after a period of trial operation, the pure electric mining truck not only "withstood the test of potholes", but also demonstrated very obvious advantages: compared with traditional fuel vehicles, the operating cost dropped by more than 90%. In terms of actual figures, a pure electric mining truck can save 1,000 to 1,500 yuan in energy costs every day.

In 2021, the team led by Xing Yafeng purchased 10 pure electric mining trucks driven by the "Double Power" motors of Panhu at one time. Compared with other motors of the same power on the market, the volume and weight of the "Double Power" motors of Panhu have been reduced by about half, and they have a wider high-efficiency range, stronger power performance, and a "more powerful" actual operation experience.

"Actually, for pure electric mining trucks, the core indicator we pay the most attention to is their availability rate," said Xing Yafeng. As production materials, the amount of ore that mining trucks need to transport each day is determined in advance. Once a certain vehicle is temporarily unable to be dispatched, it becomes very troublesome to dispatch. "As for pure electric models, the core lies in the 'three-electric' system of the motor, battery and electronic control system. Among them, The drive motor is the key of keys. If the motor breaks down, the vehicle will be completely unable to run. However, since these vehicles were put into operation three years ago, although they have been running at full capacity all the time, with "people stopping and running non-stop for about 20 hours every day", they have hardly caused Xing Yafeng any worry. Apart from routine maintenance, "they have basically been on duty all the time and no problems have occurred".

The second point is the power performance of the vehicle. "Especially for the mine we are in, it has been mined for nearly 50 years, and the ore is basically at the bottom of the pit, all under heavy-load uphill conditions." After the self-weight of the mining truck and fully loaded ore, the total load of the vehicle is 105 tons, which requires a very high output power from the motor. "A very interesting thing happened in the mine a while ago. When a fully loaded fuel-powered mining truck was climbing a slope, its wheels got stuck in a small pit and it took a lot of effort to get out. However, an electric mining truck with a hub motor managed to get out very easily. During daily operation, drivers generally feedback that these electric mining trucks are much more comfortable to drive. One reason is that they don't need to shift gears frequently. Another reason is that they don't have an engine. The noise and vibration in the driver's cabin have also decreased."

To facilitate the operation of pure electric mining trucks, several charging stations have also been built in the mining area. "The charging speed is quite good. Basically, 1% can be charged in one minute and it takes over an hour to fully charge," and with the electricity replenished by the self-recovery energy generation system of the motor, "even in the current heavy-load uphill working conditions, one charge during the day is basically sufficient."

Under the demonstration of Xing Yafeng's team, the other two teams in the mining area are also continuously increasing the proportion of pure electric mining trucks. "Overall, the quality, stability and reliability of the motor of the hub are still very good," Xing Yafeng said. With the experience of this batch of vehicles, when replacing vehicles in the future, electric mining trucks using the "Double Power" motor of the hub will still be given priority. It has comprehensively upgraded the performance of electric mining trucks in all aspects, just like the "new quality productivity" in the mining truck industry, and better meets our operational needs.
